Collatamp G is an antibiotic collagen sponge, used primarily in surgery for the localized delivery of antibiotics to prevent or treat infections in surgical wounds. Collatamp G is made from collagen, a natural protein found in connective tissues, and impregnated with gentamicin, an aminoglycoside antibiotic. Gentamicin works by inhibiting bacterial synthesis, effectively killing bacteria or preventing their growth, thus reducing the risk of infection at the surgical site.
Collatamp G is an effective localized antibiotic therapy in surgeries with high risk of infection, by providing a high concentration of antibiotics at the surgical site, while limiting systemic side effects. It is not intended to replace systemic antibiotic treatment, and additional systemic antibiotics may be necessary depending on the surgical procedure and patient condition.
